Siltech 200GP is a single component silicone RTV (room temperature vulcanizing) coating. It is moisture activated, so no chemical hardeners are needed. After a quick mix it is ready as provided. Elastomeric qualities give it the ability to bridge cracks and bend under the stress found in towers. Silicone provides excellent protection from ultraviolet light, salt and chemicals, making it a good recommendation for exposed weathering environments. Siltech 2000GP has a wide application and service temperature range. This tolerance to dramatic ambient changes make it practical when other coatings fail. Siltech 2000GP has excellent color retention and adhesion, even on items that can not be sandblasted such as fiberglass reinforced plastic. It resists fading for years and comes in a variety of colors. With its high dielectric strength, this makes it an excellent coating for electrical equipment.

Surface Preparation

Steel
1. All sharp edges will be ground to produce a radius, and all imperfections such as skip welds, laminations, scabs, slivers and slag corrected prior to coating.

2. Surfaces are degreased as needed conforming to SSPC-SPI. Organic solvents, alkaline solutions, steam, hot water with detergents or other systems that will completely remove dirt, oil, grease, etc. may be used.

Intended Uses:

Transmission towers and poles

Transformers

Metal Roofs

Fiberglass reinforced plastic

Tank exteriors

Bridges

Steam pipes

Conveyors

Structural steel

Electrical equipment attacked by ozone

Chemical vapor zones

Encapsulate existing coating systems

3. Previously painted steel shall be prepared using either hand tool cleaning, SSPC-SP2 or brush off-blast SSPC-SP7.

4. New steel shall be prepared using any sharp clean abrasive that will achieve a surface profile of 2 to 3 mils. Surface shall be abrasive blasted to a near-white or SSPC-SP10 degree of cleanliness. Within four hours of blasting, surface should be primed with a high grade industrial primer such as *Sermetel TDC. Whenever practical, steel should be primed in the shop and painted in the field. Primer must cure a minimum of 24 hours before silicone top coat can be applied. No maximum over-coat window exists as long as the surface remains free from contamination.

*Sermetel TDC is available for purchase through Silchem.

Concrete
1. Degrease surface as needed conforming to SSPC-SP1. Organic solvents, alkaline solutions, steam, hot water with detergents or other systems that completely remove dirt, oil, grease, etc. may be used.

2. New concrete should be cured a minimum of 28 days. Surface shall be brush-blasted, SSPC-SP7 or wire brushed, SSPC-SP2 to remove dirt and laitance and achieve a medium profile. All surface imperfections such as "bug holes" will be filled.

3. Weathered concrete need only be free of contamination such as dust, dirt and laitance before coating. All damaged areas such as cracks and spalled concrete shall be repaired prior to coating.

4. Rough and porous concrete shall be coated with a two-coat system. The first coat should be rolled.

Wood
All wood surfaces will be coated with a two coat system. The first coat shall be back rolled. Wood previously treated with kresolt, tar or wood preservative may bleed through. To avoid this, allow the first coat to cure completely before applying the second coat.

Galvanized Steel
Areas with rust will be spot blasted and reframed. While it is normally not necessary to pretreat galvanized steel before coating, chemical and acid pretreaters may be used. All surfaces must be free of grease, oil, dust and other contamination before coating.

Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic
1. All surfaces will be cleaned in accordance with SSPC-SP1 solvent cleaning.

Application
Siltech 2000P is a single-component material which is ready for application by airless spray as provided. Conventional spray may require further reduction. Up to 20% VM&P naphtha may be added.
Do not coat when relative humidity is greater than 85% or when dew point is less than 5 degrees above surface temperature. Siltech coatings are moisture-activated and need specially modified equipment to avoid curing in the lines. Consult your Silchem representative for assistance. Siltech 2000GP is not intended for immersion service or where a twisting tearing abrasion exists.

Dry Film Requirements

Steel 5-9 mils
Concrete 15-20 mils
Wood 15-20 mils
